What is stainless steel? What are their properties?
These steels have corrosion and heat resistant applications. A 3-digit numbering system that is used to identify them. The last 2 numbers have no special meaning, but the first indicates the group to which it belongs as follows:
CHARACTERISTICS OF STAINLESS STEEL
1.Corrosion resistance and high ductility
2.They have high chromium content
3.They develop the passivation process
They are the stainless steels to Chromium-Nickel (3xx series) and Chromium-Nickel-Manganese (2xx series), which are austenitic; They are essentially non-magnetic in annealing condition and do not harden by heat treatment, only by cold deformation. Resistant to impact and corrosion.
They are mainly steels with only between 11.5 and 18% Chrome. They are magnetic, have good toughness, great resistance to corrosion in the treated state.
This group of stainless steels with only Chrome have approximately 14 to 27% Chrome. They cannot be hardened by heat treatment, only moderately by cold deformation. They are magnetic and can be worked cold and hot.
